On April 10, 2023, Deputy Ramon “Al” Adalberto Cazarez died as a result of contracting COVID-19 while serving at the San Diego Sheriff’s Office Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, California.
Deputy Cazarez was born in Tijuana Mexico, and grew up in Fallbrook, California. A United States Air Force veteran, he had proudly served with the San Diego Sheriff’s office for 22 years. He was one of two SDSO Deputies to have succumbed to the ravages of COVID-19, and one of more than 700 law enforcement officers in the United States to have died from the pandemic’s deadly disease.
Deputy Cazarez was survived by his wife, Patricia, two daughters, two grandchildren, six siblings, and mother.
