Newspapers of the time carried his ads for coal (400 tons in one ad), revolvers, dry goods, lumber and construction materials, etc.

In September 1851, he was elected Sheriff of San Diego County, following Agoston Haraszthy’s term.  He and Haraszthy were supporters of a movement to separate California into northern and southern states, due to a perceived unfair treatment of the southern California counties.

In early 1852, he was part of the Court that tried Antonio Garra for Treason, Murder, and Theft.

Later he moved to San Francisco and lived in Sonoma in his later years, and died in San Francisco 11 August 1901.
