The San Diego Sheriff’s Museum welcomed Melanie Perry and Pete Martinez to its Board of Directors at its March 2, 2026, meeting. Both bring firsthand experience with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and different perspectives on the history the museum works to preserve.

Melanie Perry served as an emergency services dispatcher with the Sheriff’s Office from 2012 to 2022 and continued working per diem through 2023. She also served temporarily as a forensic sketch artist in the Major Crimes Division. As communications coordinator for the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County, she served as editor of Silver Star during its 2022 redesign. She now works in community relations at Ardurra.

Pete Martinez served as a deputy sheriff for nearly two decades, with assignments at South Bay Jail, on patrol in Imperial Beach and Bonita, as a K-9 handler and in the Special Investigations Division’s Gang Unit. He went on to serve with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office in gang investigations, special operations and liaison roles before retiring as a supervisor in 2015.

Please join us in welcoming Melanie and Pete. Learn more about them and their fellow directors on the Board of Directors page.
